The Food Basket Seeks Community Support on #GivingTuesday
On Nov. 29 The Food Basket will participate in the international day of giving through an online fundraising campaign.
Hawai`I Island – The Food Basket, Inc. – Hawai`i Island’s Food Bank is gearing up to launch its #GivingTuesday campaign.
#GivingTuesday is an annual movement to create an international day of giving at the beginning of the holiday season. Each year, the day falls on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.
The Food Basket, using the not-for-profit fundraising platform Classy.org, will collect monetary donations to support the mission of feeding those in need on Hawai`i Island.
“Our partners are very busy during this season, and we as The Food Basket are working our hardest to source nutritious food from the community in support of the many holiday meals our agencies provide,” said The Food Basket’s Executive Director, En Young.
Fulfilling needs through giving is such a great source of joy during the holidays, and The Food Basket would like to pay respect to the fact that these needs do not diminish throughout the year.
Funds donated during the #GivingTuesday campaign will provide the means to cover necessities that The Food Basket incurs during the holiday season and throughout the year.
“The shelves at The Food Basket are stocked and needed food items have been given to our partner agencies, who do the good work of providing direct food, whether through pantry or soup kitchen, to those in need this holiday season and year-round,” said Jo Ann Abiley, Hilo Operations Manager.
On a monthly basis, The Food Basket serves 12,000 individuals. It is only through the generous support of the community’s food and financial support, along with the dedication of our partner agencies, that The Food Basket is able to provide hope to so many in need on our island.
